Alexis Miranda Foundation had the opportunity to share with the rest of Africa in April this year by sending our speech therapist to Kenya to participate in the first-ever Pan-African Congress on Autism. She got to share why we do our advocacy work and the reason we will continue to train teachers to bridge the knowledge gap on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). She presented the findings from her research work done on “Knowledge levels of preschool teachers on ASD in the Madina and Adentan Municipalities”. (A suburb in Accra, Ghana.) The knowledge gap was evident in her research as some of the teachers described Autism as “a big hole in the mouth” and “persons with weak limbs” amongst others. It was a great platform where professionals from all over the world came together to share their knowledge, interventions, and methods that have worked in the African context.
